The Boston Marathon | My Friend Sara's Story

Hey friends! I have a story to share with you today.

This is my friend, Sara (in bright red), and me (in mauve) when we were in college together. The other two girls are our friends Lael (left) and Mary Frances (right).

94 - fall 3

Sara is a runner, and this year, she achieved one of her life-long goals -- to qualify for and finish the Boston Marathon. Today (two weeks after the marathon) she wrote about her experience, or more specifically, her experience after finishing the race and traveling back home. I found it moving and encouraging, and I asked her if it was OK for me to share it. She agreed. Here's one of my favorite parts:

... as i walked another block, i came to a couple older gentleman having a cup of coffee outside - they immediately stood up as i walked by (almost as if i was a celebrity) - they both tipped their hats and said to me "did you finish the race?".  i said yes, i was one of the fortunate runners yesterday.  they said "God bless you" and sat back down to their coffee and conversation. ...

I hope you'll go read the rest on her blog:

  1. That marathon generated so many stories. I'm glad your friend is fine AND she got to finish the race!

On an entirely different subject, JENNY! Your hair looks so cute down!

  2. I agree, Donna. It will be an experience never forgotten -- especially by those who were there.

Oh, my hair... :) I'm sure I spent 30-45 minutes blow drying and straightening it that day. I don't have time for that now. Plus, it drives me nuts to have it down. It makes my neck itch and my shoulders hurt. It only takes five minutes to twist it up in a clip, and then I don't have to think about it for the rest of the day. :)
