2013 Project Life | Week 5

Hi there! I've got another installment of Project Life today! My pages are coming together a little quicker lately, and that makes me so happy!

Last week, Marla asked how much time I spend each week on Project Life. I honestly don't know. Sometimes it feels like a part-time job. Ha! :) I tried to calculate it, and all I can say is I am S...L...O...W. Other people say their pages are finished in as little as 1-3 hours a week. It takes me much, much longer.

I spend a lot of time staring at the screen. I'm indecisive, and sometimes it just takes me a while to see what I want. Limiting my choices has been helpful. I have hundreds of digital kits I *could* use, but I *try* to use only the ones that have what I need (namely colorful papers and coordinating journal cards).

With that said, I have to admit that I did go out of bounds a bit on this week's layout. I really wanted to use the rainbowy (can that be a word?) papers in Allison Pennington's NightFall kit. I started to make my own journal cards with her papers and some templates I have, but quickly realized it would take me a long time (too many decisions!). So, I looked for pre-made journal cards that could go with the papers. I found some in the Seafoam Edition, and then I recolored them (which was unnecessary, but I just wanted to). I also used a couple of pieces from a few other kits (so much for limiting my choices, right??).  :)

Products used for Week 5:

Everyday Life Templates (Volume 1) 3x4 Calendar Cards 2013 (Monday Start) Mark My Words Just Beachy Kit NightFall Paper Pack Seafoam Edition Diptych Fall Festival Super Bowl 2013 Freebie

Maybe I'll do a post about my process for Project Life. Not today. But maybe soon? :) If you're interested, Sheri at Sheri Mae Designs posted about her workflow recently. If you're thinking about doing Project Life (and I hope you are!), you'll find a lot of helpful posts on her blog.

  1. Wow I love your pages. So colorful and cheery. I do the same thing with my pages, just stare at the screen trying to figure out how I want it to look. :) I try to just move on or come back to it later if I am struggling. Your pages really came together nice though.

    1. Thank you, Suzanne! I have to do that a lot too (force myself to move on or take a break and come back to it later). :)

  2. Such nice digital pages. I love your journaling works that pop--they help summarize the week at a quick glance.

  3. I'm in DC and we had insanely warm weather at the beginning of last week, too! But by the end of the week it had snowed about 10 times! Your spread is so happy-feeling, it looks great...very organized!

    1. Thanks, Kelsey! We didn't have the extremes that you all in DC did! I'm hoping our mild winter is not indicative of a super hot summer (like last year).

  4. I love your bright & colorful pages. Great superbowl photo. I forgot to take any photos - except one of my husband's fav superbowl snack - pigs in a blanket (only time we ever have them)! And I love the addition of that cute calendar.

    1. Thanks, Margie! :) I thought I had taken a pic on Superbowl Sunday every year since our oldest was born, but looking back through them today, I discovered that I've only remembered every other year or so. Oh, well! Something is better than nothing. :)

  5. Love your pages!! I find I can spend as little as two hours on a week can take me ALL day to do. No consistency here but now that I am on my second year I find I am being more decisive with what elements to use and then staying with that choice. I wasted so much time last year changing out journal cards and recolouring elements - ack!! Looking back at my 2012 book it doesn't matter and no one notices so I am just going with my first choice.

    1. Thanks Sue! I agree... Your family will enjoy your album for the photos and memories, and won't care if it's all color-coordinated or not. I also agree that it gets easier, and you have to give yourself some slack. :)

  6. Really love your layouts. All the color is fantastic! I'm really slow too. I like to work on my layouts in short bursts and it seems to really add to the time. I love the end result though!

  8. Yowza, those colors are stunning. I love the muted rainbow colors and the wonderful crumpling on those filler cards. I am inspired by how much journaling you managed to get in. I am totally like you in how long it takes me to do this. I'm always awed/confused/jealous when people say stuff like "Oh it took me so long to do my layout this week, 3 hours!" It definitely takes longer when you're recoloring stuff, which I always seem to end up doing, if I'm not making it from scratch :) For me what takes longest is laying it out. I'm always trying to squeeze so many pics on, some vertical, some horizontal, many square. At any rate, nice pages!!!

    1. Thanks! I have tried to limit myself to design A, and that has helped with the layout time. Of course, I almost always pop some 3x4's over at least one of the 4x6 spots, but that is easy and fast. :)

  9. Wow Jenny your pages are looking sooo good! I like your colorful journling cards and filler cards! And really like that photo of the two boys in bed and smiling so happily. Also love that cross stitch calendar you picked up at the thrift store! Keep going, we like you for inspiration :)
