Our New Playroom!

DSC_0954-fix

The boys spent a few days with Nanny and Paw Paw over the 4th of July, so while they were gone, I got busy cleaning out closets and rearranging furniture. They've been sharing Braden's room for a couple of months now, and I've had it on my to-do list to clear out the nursery (Cameron's old room) and turn it into a playroom. I ended up switching the rooms completely, and made Braden's room the playroom and Cameron's room their bedroom. That wasn't my original plan, but it worked out perfectly. Here's a before shot:

This was taken when we first got Cameron's toddler bed. He was so excited to lie down on it, and to get to sleep in Bubby's room. :)

And here are the afters...

I left the United States canvas and the big B where they were. I love how they fit right in with the new layout.

The brown cubby between the black bookcases is actually a bookcase turned on its side. It had been in Cameron's closet (upright), packed full of books. I emtpied it out to move it, and was pleasantly suprised to discover that it was the perfect size to fit between the black bookcases. It provides some much needed table height play space and organization. I sorted through our books and gave a bunch away to a friend who's expecting her first baby, and then bought a little white bookcase at Walmart (on rollback for $12.50!) and put it in the playroom closet for the remaining books. I was bound and determined to get all their books in that one little shelf. It worked! If we get any new books, I'll make room for them on the bottom shelf under the CD player / non-existent TV.

When the boys got home, they were so excited to see their new playroom! They immediately got to work, and played with things they hadn't seen in ages (since a lot had been buried in Braden's closet).

The rug is from Target. The only other thing I bought specifically for this room (besides the white bookcase in the closet) was the marker board (also from Target, in-store only). Everything else was either already in the room or was in our former play area (a.k.a. the formal dining room / office). That area of the house is now on my to-do list. My plan is office / homeschool room, and it may or may not involve refinishing an old table! More on that later...

The boys have spent a lot of time in their new playroom this week, and have even managed to keep it cleaned up! Ahh... My main goal in doing all this reorganizing was to make our home more functional and peaceful. So far, so good!

  2. Thanks, Brittany! You might have to shop around to find the shelves. Some stores have them, and some don't. Regular price is around $15, so still really cheap even if they're not on Rollback.

  7. Thanks! The whiteboard is from Target. I ordered the letter from a wood cutter online, but I don't remember which one. A friend painted it for me. :)
