It seems like it's been forever since I've written about what Cameron's doing lately. I stopped making monthly scrapbook pages after his first birthday, so now I'm feeling behind. He's still a very content little boy. He will play by himself for a long time (if he's standing up). He hasn't yet figured out how to move from standing to sitting or vice versa, so if I leave him standing up at a table toy or the coffee table, he's sure to still be there when I come back. Once he's down on the floor, though, he will not stay put. He still scootches around on his belly with his modified one-armed army crawl. His favorite no-no places to go are the laundry room and our bathroom. He usually scoots in the room and then shuts the door. I call him the Human Swiffer.
He's learning like crazy right now. He points to things he likes or wants. He likes to point to the matching pictures in his little I Spy books. He can take a peg puzzle piece out and put it back in the right place. He loves to turn off light switches. Every time (and I mean EVERY time) I put him in his high chair and sit down to feed him, he points to the light over the dining table, signs "light" and then points to the lightswitch, and then back and forth. Sometimes he says, "yeah", when he points at the light (he says that a lot when he's pointing to things he wants to touch). He also sometimes says "ah" when he points to the switch (I'm thinking "ah" means off?). He signs several things (some he's been signing for a long time): milk, more, finished, change, help, and light. I may be forgetting a couple. I'm trying to teach him "bird" right now. He loves to eat and is expanding his palate almost daily. He'll eat pretty much whatever we give him. He loves peas/beans (David will probably laugh at me for typing peas/beans. David loves peas AND beans and argues that they each have a distinctly different taste. They're all pretty much the same to me). Anyway... Cameron also loves spinach cooked in a skillet with an egg scrambled in (I do too). He's learning the parts of his face. He can point to his nose (or my nose), his mouth, tongue, and teeth (not sure if he gets the difference, but we're working on it), his ear, and his hair. David says I need to enunciate better between ear and hair, though.
What else... He loves it when we count things (shirt buttons, snaps, stacked blocks, anything really). I always count the tablespoons of cereal I measure into his breakfast bowl, and he always shakes his hands in the air one time and says, "ah" for each one until I get to the fourth and final one. Then he shakes his hands a few times (signing "finished") and says, "ah-ah!" He says Mama, Da-da, and Bu-buh. He's always really excited to see David, and usually says, "Da-da" when we go out to the garage to get in the car to go pick up Braden (too many prepositional phrases there) at school - I guess because we usually go see David at work right after we pick up Braden. He also says, "Da-da" as we pull into the parking lot of David's office. He loves to walk, but he still needs assistance. We're working on getting him to walk and just hold one hand. I think it's really weird that he doesn't pull up on any of the furniture. He'll only pull himself up to standing if we're holding his hands. He also still hasn't figured out how to move from his belly to a sitting position. Braden did that when he was about 9 months, so I'm a little worried (trying not to make comparisons, though!). I'm working on getting him to drink milk from a sippy cup (either whole milk or formula - he refuses both), so for now, he still gets two bottles of formula a day. He has a check-up next week when he turns 15 months, so I'll ask the doctor about all of that. I'm hoping he'll do everything, just in his own time.
I think that's about it... He's my sweet boy!
P.S. I'll try to come back later and add some pictures.
