This weekend was our church's annual women's retreat. It was held in a local hotel (which I greatly appreciate since I didn't have to pay for a room and got to go home to my own bed). The speaker was a local lady who has a beautiful heart for the Lord. She was a wonderful speaker, and it was a joy to meet her. I enjoyed our sessions on Friday night very much and was looking forward to attending the Saturday morning session, too.
Well... when I got up and got ready to leave, it was pouring sleet! Our driveway was slick, and I decided not to risk going out. I was so disappointed! I checked the weather, and saw that there was supposed to be a break mid-morning, so I waited and decided to go on around 10 AM. The roads were pretty much just wet and a little bit slushy by then, and I made it in time for the 2nd morning session. It was such a blessing!
Our speaker, Mrs. Judy, leads a women's Bible study at a local detention center, and asked if we would be willing to pray for the women in her group. I immediately thought, "Oh, yes! I would love to pray for them." That is a new feeling for me (look back to my post A New Purpose to see why), and it was wonderful. I am now officially on Mrs. Judy's prayer warrior email list, and I am praying right now for 19 women. I don't know why they are all in jail. Several have admitted to having problems with drugs and alcohol, and I think some are awaiting criminal trials. Regardless, they are children of God just like you and me, and I'm thankful to have the opportunity to pray for them. If you would like to pray for them too, let me know, and I will ask Mrs. Judy to add you to the email list. :)
