Ahh... Charlotte's Web. We have really enjoyed reading together the last couple of weeks. I signed Braden up through school to go to see a community theater production of Charlotte's Web, and today was the day. He loved it! On the way there, he said he couldn't wait to get to the theater and get some Skittles. Umm... Didn't think about explaining that we weren't going to a MOVIE theater. :) He was OK with it, though. We got to sit with all the people from our school, which was fun. He really enjoyed watching the boy who played "Templeton" the rat. It was entertaining. :)
Our goal was to finish reading the book before seeing the play, and we just barely made it. We crammed in the last six chapters this morning. I was a little worried that Braden would get really upset when Charlotte died, and then not want to go see the play. He was fine. I, on the other hand, had to fight back tears when we read that section. I started laughing at myself (I mean, come on! I knew what was going to happen!), which I think helped lighten the mood for Braden. When I told David that I cried, he laughed and reminisced about the time his mom took him and his sister to see a Star Trek movie, and warned them beforehand that Spock was going to die, and that they shouldn't cry about it. Then, when that part of the movie came along, guess who was sitting there crying -- Mom. Oh, us moms... we're so emotional.
After the play, we stopped at Braum's for an ice cream cone for Braden and a junior cheeseburger with ketchup only, fries, and a Coke for me (I didn't have time to each much for lunch before we left). Braden's ice cream cone broke on the last bite, and he got chocolate all down his front. It was a great day! :)
