Finding Your Style at Southern Hospitality and
Warm Brown at Pure Style Home
She didn't include the above photo in the Warm Brown post (it's from her own home), but I thought it fit the topic really well, and I like it. :)
I love browsing all the artsy craftsy decoratey (is that a word?) blogs I have over there in my blog roll, and I get lots and lots of ideas about what I might like to do in our house. I've never been one to love the trendiest of designs, but there are some trends that I really like. Like white kitchens. Or even two-tone kitchens like this one from The Lettered Cottage.

What I've been thinking about lately is whether I like a trend enough to like it for the next ten years. I don't love to decorate. I don't like change. I like to get everything working and then leave it like that. For a long time. So, I want to be sure that any changes I make will work for the long haul.
One thing I know I love, and have always loved (like since I was a little girl) is white moulding. Lots of it. I don't like curtains that much because they hide the trim around the windows. I like thick woodwork with clean lines. It's a little unfortunate that moulding is one of my favorite features in a house because our house doesn't have that much of it. We have some in the living room that I really like, but the windows only have sills (or "stools," which I've learned is the correct term for the ledge below the window on the inside of a house. The "sill" is actually on the outside of the house). Anyway, our windows are finished with drywall - no trim. If I could choose one thing (something that was actually do-able) to change about our house, it would be to trim out all the windows.

I am LOVING the craftsman revival that's been going on in homebuilding. I would buy a new craftsman style house in a minute (if I could afford it) because I know I would love it for years to come.

I wouldn't care if it went out of style, because it's a style that I loved even before it had its rebirth of popularity. That's what I've been learning about design. You have to love your home and what's in it. If you don't love it, you're not going to want to be there. So, anyway... I still haven't figured out exactly what my decorating style is, but I'm working on it!
Good for you! Sounds like your well on your way to figuring out your decorating style! I love, love, love the craftsman style homes too!! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
