Cool People

Fonzie was not really what I was going for when I did my Google image search for "cool person," (of which I obviously am not since I actually did a Google image search for "cool person,") but I thought he was funny, so there you go.

Man, there are some COOL people out there. On the web, I mean. Well, actually, some of them live not too far away in places like Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri (which, if you're in the know, is pronounced Missour-uh). Anyway... My absolute favorite blog right now is Ashley Ann's. She's been on vacation this week, and has had some really cool guest bloggers. Check out her blog and see for yourself. I have added a couple of them to my Artsy Craftsy list over there in the left column.

I am such a cool-person wannabe. I so want to spray paint something and buy an old typewriter at a flea market, and then use it to decorate some corner of my house. I am so not cool, though! I've never even been to a flea market. I have all these ideas in my head about what I wish my house looked like, and what I wish I could do, but I'm paralyzed by my perfectionism. I'm so afraid to try and have it not be perfect - or not really not perfect - but worse than it was before. You know, I really want to paint my kitchen cabinets (which I've talked about before), but what if I tried it, and it looked awful? My neighbor across the street is getting ready to paint her cabinets, and I've already asked her for before/after photos and tips. So, we'll see about that.

Anyway, I just get frustrated with myself sometimes for my home decor/DIY wanna-be-ness. Part of it is frustration that I'm not content with my home just the way it is, and part of it is frustration that I hold myself back. OK, enough about me and my woe-is-me-ing.

Back to the cool people. They are so cool! I have been browsing some awesome blogs lately. Not only do these girls have super cute houses that they have designed all on their own, lots of them are great humanitarians and lovers of the Lord to boot. The total package in my eyes. I sound like I'm trying to sell something. That's not really my point. I just am in awe of these very cool ladies and all that they do. Some of them also make me feel a little old, because they're 20-somethings (some - not all).

I'm definitely not a 20-something anymore. I have a gray hair that I haven't pulled out because I'm secretly proud that I've earned a gray hair and also secretly scared that 7 more will grow in its place (I'm not superstitious at all, but that's one I heard a lot as a kid for some reason, and just can't forget!).

Also... and this is one that made me feel really old...

I was browsing a list on Facebook of people who are planning to attend my sorority chapter's 60th anniversary shindig next month (which I will NOT be attending because the invitation had the words "formal wear"), and came across a name that I recognized immediately, but had to think for a minute before I figured out how I knew her. She's a current sorority member (a college sophomore)... and I was her fourth grade teacher! Ack! How did THAT happen? I am feeling old. Granted, it was my first year of teaching (2000-2001), and it was fourth grade, not first, so it makes sense that ten years ago in 2000, she was in my class, and now, in 2010, she's in her second year of college. I realize that's how math works, but it makes me feel OLD!

How did I get to talking about myself yet again? Ugh... Now I am not only a perfectionist, but apprently narcisitic as well. So not like the very cool people. Though, they do write blogs all about themselves, their kids, and their projects, so maybe they have a little bit of the narcisitic-ish-ness in them too (though, I think not). I am also not a writer of short and sweet blog posts. Some of the cool people are. OK, I'm done. :)

P.S. David just cleaned orange crayon out of the dryer. Lovely.

  2. Ha! Thanks, Amanda! The grass is always greener on the other side. I wish I was like YOU, though, and could sew!! I guess that's why God gives us friends. We can't all be the same. That, and we need people to do our hemming. ;)
