I want to paint the kitchen cabinets.

I really want to paint our kitchen cabinets white. Benjamin Moore "Linen White" to be specific. That's the trim color in our house. Our kitchen is dark. I'm tired of it. I want white cabinets, and I think they would look great! Don't you? I set the door I removed from our closet in the kitchen to see what it would look like. I would love to replace all the white appliances with stainless, but that won't be happening any time soon. I think it looks OK with the white next to the cream. What do you think? Note: It doesn't look quite as creamy in real life as it does in the picture (and please ignore the package of paper towels and the box of pretend vanilla wafers on the floor).

Sigh... All that being said, I can't forget this quote that's been on my mind all week: "Comparison is the thief of joy." I read it over on Ashley Ann's blog, which I love, but sadly is a major contributor to my comparison file. I've also started watching design shows again lately, and that's no good. They may seem harmless and fun, but every time I watch one (that has an end result I like), I leave it with a little bit more discontentment in my heart. The same thing happens when I visit friends' homes. I usually leave thinking about how much I liked this or that in their house, and I wish my house had this or that, or that I could do this or that, etc. Some of it, I could do with little investment, but most of the time, it's big things - like hardwood floors (we have Pergo in every room, but you know, real hard wood is nicer), or white wood framing around all the windows. Anyway... Comparison really is the thief of joy. When my house is clean and clutter-free (or at least clutter-contained), I like it a lot. And when I'm thankful for all that I have, I'm a lot happier (a.k.a more content) than when I'm trying to keep up with the Joneses. So, anyway... I still want to paint my kitchen cabinets (and I probably won't get to), but I'm trying not to let it steal my joy. :)

A couple of my devotionals this past week have been about being content. One was even about a lady who wanted to re-do her kitchen. :) "I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am." - Philippians 4:11. I like the prayer that was at the end of the devotional page: Dear Lord, thank You for all that You've given me. I want to be content in what I have, and at peace about what I might not get.

  1. I like them the way they are. I've taken Better Homes and Gardens magazine for a long time. I'm also a magazine hoarder, so I can go back to previous years more easily than I should. It's funny when I can't tell whether a picture is the "before" or "after." Decorating is often just a "let's make it different" activity. Just think of all that work you'll save if you leave them as they are!
