The Heat is On!

Wow, it has been a crazy week! We had a big ice storm on Tuesday and Wednesday, and were without power from Tuesday around 1 pm until Thursday around 3:30 pm. I am SO thankful that we have a gas fireplace and gas hot water! I don't know what we would have done without the fireplace. It was so cold the first night! We didn't turn the fireplace on until the next day because it really stinks up the house for a few hours at first. We had to the next day, though, or it was going to just keep getting colder in our house. I've always said that I wished we had a wood burning fireplace instead of gas, but who knows if we would have had enough wood. At least with the gas, we can turn it on and off as needed. I guess there could be a natural disaster where we couldn't use gas or didn't have gas, so maybe if we ever build a house, we'll have both a gas and a wood burning fireplace (one more thing on my dream house wishlist). :) Anyway... The whole area we live in looks like a tornado went through (at least it will once all the ice melts). We don't have any big trees in our yard, but we have plenty of big limbs from our neighbors' trees that we'll have to clean up. That's nothing compared to the mess in other people's yards, though. I am very thankful for all the workers who have been cutting up the fallen trees and getting the branches off of the power lines. It is amazing how much we rely on electricity. We caught ourselves several times trying to turn things on without thinking about it. David and I were talking about how all the heat from the fireplace was going up to the ceiling, and I suggested we turn the fan on (duh... no electricity = no ceiling fan). Then, we were talking about how we wish we had a generator, and I said I was sure they were all sold out. Then, David suggested we order one online (no electricity = no Internet either). Anyway, I am very thankful we have our power back. I know there are lots of people who still don't.
